The function of marketing/ media and creative is to promote the company and it’s products through various channels with the goal of creating attention and drawing in the consumer’s interest, ultimately leading to a sale. The marketing department works closely with the sales and business development as the process starts with researching the market, and then developing various strategies and campaigns to attract the buyer, and ultimately ends with somebody purchasing the product or the service.
Strategies for marketing are constantly evolving, and much of it is done online through social media platforms, as well old school strategies such as campaigns using print (magazines and newspapers) and television and radio. This means that a marketing manager and their team must come up with unique ways to promote their product, and must know their target audience. It could it be hiring a video editor to ensure the final product of a commercial is coherent, or a dynamo social media manager to gain a following, but it must be well thought out.
Marketing campaigns tend to be visual, and all avenues must present the product or service in an endearing light. Visuals media such as logos, flyers, newsletters, billboards, and website design play a large role for which a graphic designer is required, Packaging and pricing are also highly important.
The Myanmar economy is experiencing rapid growth at the moment, which means that individuals have a higher disposable income, which means they have more money to spend. But this economic growth is also paving the way for more competition in the market, which means as the marketplace gets crowded more and more creativity needs to go into campaigns in order to grab the attention of the consumer. This is why marketing professionals with creativity, proven track records in meeting targets, excellent computer skills (as so much of marketing is online these days) and a sturdy command of the English language are in high demand.
Marketing is a very popular career option, so to even get into the field a relevant degree is required (in marketing / or PR/ Communications). One will normally being their marketing career as a marketing assistant, where there will also be administrative duties, and from there onto a marketing executive. Following that is a marketing manager role, which requires much creativity as well as people management skills and problem solving abilities.
