Qualifications for obtaining a job are dependant on particular roles. Roles which involve design and engineering normally require not only an aptitude for maths and science but in most circumstances a relevant college degree. Roles in development generally also require a college degree, however in many cases real world experience is considered more valuable, as well as up to date knowledge of advances. For example, to get a job as an android developer, practical experience with proof of at least one functional application is perhaps more valuable than a degree. Whilst IT and computer roles are varied, it may be fair to say that to progress in the industry, one must keep abreast with advances and continue their education.
