NIRAS has worked in Myanmar since 2012. In November 2014, NIRAS was legally registered in Myanmar as a branch office. NIRAS Myanmar has established the office in Yangon with the permanent presence of both national and international staff.

NIRAS Myanmar is currently focusing primarily on development consulting and environmental consulting including Environmental and Social Impact Assessments. NIRAS Myanmar has substantial knowledge of the country, we have ongoing project activities across large parts of the country, and we have a significant network of local experts and contacts within a wide range of sectors involving government ministries and agencies, private sector, and civil society. Among our priority sectors are water, environment, agriculture, irrigation, aquaculture, forestry, energy, education, rural and urban development. Among multilateral and bilateral agencies our main clients are ADB, World bank, AFD and GIZ. NIRAS Myanmar is currently looking for a full-time Business Development Manager who will take the leading role in finding business opportunities, project proposal preparations, project management and establish and maintain relationships with clients, partner organizations and consultants.

The candidate will be well-organized, has good time management skills working with deadlines, can think strategically and preferably who has leadership skills and has knowledge of the development sector in Myanmar.

 

Please note: We would like to have a candidate who has continuous experience working in the development sector and hence this position would not be of your interest if you are interested in sales and marketing of products and developing other businesses.

The Business Development Officer will report to the Country Director and Head office. The responsibilities will include but not limited to the following:

  • Build and maintain effective relationships with clients, partner organizations and consultants;
  • Identify and recruit suitable external consultants for new opportunities and projects;
  • Work on and promote bid best practice initiatives and further develop internal processes and systems;
  • Other duties as assigned by the Country Manager and the BD Manager from the Head Office.

 

  • Supporting NIRAS Asia Myanmar’s portfolio growth:
    • Supporting and leading the management of bids and proposals from identification through to submission.
    • Administration of internal tool for managing tender pipeline and experts' database.
    • Developing Business Development Strategy of NIRAS Myanmar.
    • Developing strategic partnerships and consortium arrangements on bids;
    • Leading and assisting the drafting and composition of bids, proposals, presentations, and concept notes;
    • Supporting development of proposal budgets and corresponding commercial pro-forms and narratives
    • Identify and recruit suitable external consultants for new opportunities and projects;
    • Preparing marketing and promoting documents in close collaboration with NIRAS communication team.
  • Ensuring delivery of quality services:
    • Manage and/or assist in the management of NIRAS newly awarded or ongoing projects, including
      • Technical, operational and financial viability , client reporting,
      • Building and maintaining effective relationships with clients, partner organizations and consultants;
      • Application of NIRAS management systems and QA procedures;
    • Coordinating internal and external communications and visibility with NIRAS communications team;
    • Ensuring client and project team satisfaction;
    • Work on and promote bid best practice initiatives and further develop internal processes and systems;

Job Requirements

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in an academic area relevant to NIRAS’ work (e.g. international relations, economics, development studies, business administration).
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant work experience in the development sector.
  • Excellent written and spoken both in English and in Burmese.
  • Strong experience in project management, experience in winning competitive bids in public sector procurements for international development financiers; strong experience with the ADB will be considered an asset.
  • Outstanding communication skills both internally and externally
  • Demonstrated project management and/or implementation experience; experience building communication with Ministries and Municipalities will be a valuable asset.
  • Strong business acumen, with a growth mindset and entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Outstanding attitude and work ethic, accustomed to working under pressure towards tight deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail, good time management and multi-tasking skills. 
  • A 100% team player, with demonstrated ability to work autonomously and taking initiative with success.
  • The right candidate will furthermore possess the problem solving skills necessary to manage emerging  challenges and be able to think on their feet. Valued in perspective candidates also will be a genuine interest in development consulting, and of course a positive and open-minded work approach.
